The Making of Petals and Iron
This project began when Jazz wanted to return to photography and create something meaningful and uplifting. She set out to center LGBTQ+ BIPOC masculine-presenting individuals—particularly Black lesbians—capturing them in a fresh way by placing them in nature, where strength and softness coexist.
In early spring 2025, Jazz partnered with Missy, whose fashion and creative vision helped shape the concept into a masculine pride campaign. Together, they photographed masculine-presenting women of color surrounded by flowers and natural elements, highlighting their duality.
Through castings, photo shoots, and community collaboration, they aimed to challenge stereotypes and shift how masculine-presenting women are portrayed—showing them not as intimidating or hypersexualized, but as whole, soft, and powerful.
